Description:
I have a guestbook script written in Perl that is currently operational on my old site. On my new site, which unfinished and not "public" yet, I have made all the files PHPs, and I want the guestbook to conform to the site design and layout, and therefore want it in PHP as well. I would change the code over myself, except I do not know either language well enough, and I don't have the time right now to teach myself. (I could not find a conversion program, so this is where you come in. =)

Besides a straight conversion of the code I have already modded (with permission) and partially written myself, I would also like a few other features to be written in by you:

- I want each guestbook-view page to have a settable number of entries. I want this to be settable to the user, but have a default of 10.
- I want the entries to be sortable to the user in any of the following methods, via a dropdown select: "newest-to-oldest", "oldest-to-newest", "[specified variable] only", etc., with the default as the former.
- I want the above-mentioned choices at the top so that the users can choose their viewing methods and navigate through the guestbook pages, and with that I also want "next page" and "previous page".
- I want an admin-view or something of the sort where I can respond entries, if I want, thereby having it print, under the entry, my response text along with an "Admin's note: " in front of it.

Included here in the zip are two screencaptures: one of an entry in the old guestbook and the other of the new site layout.

Naturally I will be more specific, where needed, to the "winner" of the project on things like "[specified variable]", but if you would like any additional information / have any questions about the project as it stands here, please contact me. Thanks!!

Deliverables:
- Complete and fully-functional guestbook in PHP, as well as any code necessary to run it. Must be able to put includes in the code so other PHP code and HTML pages can be loaded from the guestbook pages. (Ex: "<? include "header.php"; ?>".) - Complete ownership of all code provided. (However, use of any conversion code you may use or develop for the project is irrelevant to me.) - A somewhat minor detail, but I would prefer the font tags and such to be in a format like the following: "blah". (no [separate] style sheets!)

Platform:
Unix. My host provider can run PHP4, but it would require a .php4 extension on all those files. I would much prefer a .php on the files instead. I would like the guestbook to be functional in all reasonably recent versions of NS and IE (...and hopefully KDE and other Linux browsers).

Must be 100% finished and received by buyer on:
Oct 22, 2002 EDT
Deadline legal notes: All times are expressed in the time zone of the site EDT (UT - 5). If the buyer omitted a time, then the deadline is 11:59:59 PM EDT on the indicated date.

Additional Files:
This bid request includes IMPORTANT additional attached files. Please download and read fully before bidding.

Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business projects < $500 (before the buyer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the software buyer and seller agreements. We monitor all site activity for such violations and can instantly expel transgressers on the spot, so we thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you notice a violation please help out the site and report it. Thanks for your help.

Dear Buyer,

My name is Alan Chen and I have extensive experience with Perl and the Web, but less so with PHP. In general, I have been programming for over ten years with seven years of Perl experience and several months of PHP work. The reason my bid is so low is that I would like to gain more experience with PHP as well as begin to establish a project history on Rent-A-Coder. If this sounds good to you at the price, please select my bid. Cheers, Alan.
