Description:
Looking for a t-sql statement (or view) that will do something very specific. This t-sql statement will find the earliest date from 3 columns in every record of a table. I have three date columns in a database. For every record, I need the sql statement to pick the earliest date and insert that value into a new column. To make this task even trickier, the three date columns will contain null values. I need the T-sql to ignore the null values.
As an example: a field called date1 has a value of 4/22/98 a field called date2 has a value of 5/16/92 a field called date3 has a null value
I&'m looking for a t-sql statement (or view) that will take the earliest date value from each record in a table and insert that value into new field called date4.
Result for the above record….date4=5/16/92
Any suggestions are helpful.
