The encryption should be reversible or the perl compiler will not be able to process it. And if it is reversible a really good programmer will be able to steal it. Anyway, I've done such protection before and it does pretty good job. There are 3 levels of encryption. First, it randomizes the variables and procedure names so that you'll never be able to get the idea how it does what it does. The other 2 levels are 2 different custom methods of 2-way encryption along with CRC check. The CRC check ensures that the script will stop working if they change even a bit of it.
