Description:
Delany Gardens is a gardening business based in Islington, London, which specialises in three areas:
Garden Products by mail order Gardening Events Garden Design and Landscaping
The Managing Director, Sam Delany, has asked you to design and implement a small database that will help them to keep track of their business in these three areas.
You should be aware that there is significant cross over in data between the three business areas to allow them to share a single set of data in one database. For example when a garden design is being prepared then the company will specify which products from the ranges they sell will be used in the design. When there is an event such as a local garden show, products will be on sale and a record kept of sales at that event.
Excerpts from interviews:
Sam Delany: “I set up Delany Gardens twenty years ago mainly as a design company and have branched out into the other areas. There are five members of staff, including me. I do the designs, and John and Barry help me with the landscaping of the gardens. Mary runs the retail side and arranges the shows. She manages stock and orders. When an order comes to the shop Mary will process it and Sid will get it from the stock room. Delivery of products is done by Sid, John or Barry who drive the van, depending on who is available.”
Mary: “I log all orders on an Product Order Sheet [see below Sample 1] which records the customer details and what they are ordering. When I arrange a delivery, I add the date to the order. We usually deliver everything at once but sometimes if one or more products are out of stock then we have to make several deliveries. This makes a mess of our records. It would be good if you could make it easy for us to record multiple deliveries against an order. “Gardening events are usually arranged by local councils, companies and charities. They will contact me and tell me the date and location of the event. I then set up an Event Record Shee
