Description:
I need an EXPERT in COM+ who can finish this project very fast. My new website is done but the COM+ components on the site need to be updated and possibly 1-2 added. The site is in ASP and the work-intensive functions involve querying the SQL database. I need this site to manage 100-200 concurrent users so I need the coding as efficient as possible. If you do not have extensive COM+ experience and do not considered yourself an expert in this area, please do not bid.
Deliverables: Review existing COM+ components, recommend and develop 1-2 COM+ components.
Special Conditions / Other:
need this delivered in less than 1 week.
Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business projects < $500 (before the buyer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the software buyer and seller agreements.
We monitor all site activity for such violations and can instantly expel transgressers on the spot, so we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
If you notice a violation please help out the site and report it. Thanks for your help.

I am very experienced in COM+, ASP and SQL Server. My Artisanz site uses this technology with a COM+ component that I call BizTec, which implements the business rules and manages access to the SQL Server. I have another site, that reuses this technology, but because it not released to the general public yet, I can not let you visit it.
To make a bid and a time estimate, I'll need to (1) review the COM+ code and (2) have a list of the changes you require.

I've examined the COM code. It looks pretty good. Some of the speed issues may be due to the code continuing opening and closing connections to the SQL Server. Typically you open a connection once when the ASP page is visited and then close it before return the HTML to the user.
I can not find anything about a "search" function in the code nor in the ASP pages you provided.
I am a very weary about bidding on something that I do not have enough information on.
If there is a specification of the (1) data base you are using and (2) what you want to search for and return; I can then give you a realistic quote.

I've review edthe site and it looks very nice. I am
impressed by the top banner and left menu bar, very
clever.
I was able to take a look at 'Who's on' and 'Search';
'Quick Search' told me I need to upgrade my account. From
the 'Who's on list' I tried to click on the online user
(me) and got an ASP error, same when I tried to submit
the search.
As I understand things, both 'who's on' and 'search' go
though index.asp specifying various variables. Now I
understand your question about large ASP files. One
large file to do everything is not the way to go. Its
a nightmare to maintain, never mind trying to find out
what it does and secondly it could present speed issues
when 200+ users are executing it.
The project could be divided up into the following phases
(listed order of shortest time to deliver)
(1) Get 'who's on' working.
(2) Get the search logic working, eg COM
(3) Get the search page to display the results
(4) Optimise the ASP files as follows:
4a) move the javascripts out of the ASP/include files
into a seperate .js, that the client references.
this allows the client to cache them, which means
s/he doesn't have to overload your server to get the
same information
4b) chop up the index.asp files into individual files
as required.
(5) I also have a suspicion that the code is placing a load
on the SQL Server. I think it could be better.
Their are some logistical problems. How do I get access to the data base
your are using and how do I place new ASP and COM files on it. Perhaps
if your site admin could send me the SQL scripts to create the data base
and then some sample data on it, I could then test everything on my server.
Seems to me that we both have IIS and SQL server running on Windows 2000 Server.
I would like to schedule payments by delivery of phases, if that is alright
with you. Perhaps we should have a phone conference (old technology is
still cool). |
