Description:
This work is for an Access database issue. I have a database in Access with 600,000 business names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. My problem is there are several duplicates in the database that I need to pull out, and I am looking for an automated way to do this as much as possible. I do not want to go through all 600,000 records to find duplicates.
Some examples of records are as follows:
Smith Construction Co Smith Construction Co Inc Smith Constructoin Co Inc Smith Constr Co Inc John Smith Construction Co - All with similar addresses -
Then there are instances such as:
Smith Construction Co - 1234 Street Name, Dallas, TX A J Smith COnstruction Co - 5678 Street Name, Houston, TX A J Contruction Co - 1234 Street Name, Dallas, TX Smith Construction Co Inc - 8888 Street Name, New York, NY
I need to have a Macro/Module written that can compare the records and update another field with an "X" if there is a good chance that record is a duplicate. That way I can go back through and filter out all the "X"'s to manually verify that they are indeed duplicates.
NOTE: A FIND DUPLICATES QUERY WILL NOT WORK AS THE RECORDS ARE NOT EXACT DUPLICATES. I need something perhaps that checks character per character and calculates a frequency of similarity, which would make it appear to be a duplicate.
If you need any more information, please let me know. I will attach a small sample of the database I am working with
