Description:
Overview: The service will provide a printing function for HTML web pages that are written to directories. This service is actually going to take web pages, render them using the IE webcontrol, and then print the page to a printer depending upon the directory the file was located in.
Background: This application is for an industrial client that uses PDA&'s on the shop floor to control production. The PDA cannot print, so this app is needed. The PDA uses web pages to view reports, status, etc. Occasionally the user needs to print that report (web page). The solution will involve writing the HTML page to a server location (already done on the server side by an ASP file), and then this service will print the job to the correct printer (see below for more information).
Requirements: The client wants this service to be written using Dot Net technologies (Either C# or VB.NET). This is their attempt to test the waters of Dot Net in a production environment, without anything very risky to their core business (smart).
Details: Please read the attached PDF on the complete requirements and details (Not enough room here).
Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) No installation package. Instructions on how to setup on the servers. Installer is not required.
3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
Windows 2000 Server with Dot Net technologies (C# or VB.NET)
Must be 100% finished and received by buyer on:

Attn: Jason Short
My name is Carl Penman. I am an experienced software developer living near Toronto, Canada. I have been coding professionally for 8 years, and have recently discovered RentACoder. I am currently looking for my first job via RentACoder, so I may get my first rating, and get the ball rolling, so to speak.
I have past work experience in the Insurance industry, doing document management, and have in fact done this sort of program before - Streaming actual PRN files to various networked high speed printers, depending on specified time of day, and current load in a particular printer's print queue.
I have already completed all the necessary background research to complete this project in VB.NET. I have a working version that is started/stopped using the standard Windows Services control. This service watches the appropriate directories and uses an instance of an InternetExplorer object to print a specified HTML file. There is a consideration to using this method: The IE object can only print to the default printer. It is a limitation of the object. There is a workaround, in modifying the registry to temporarily change the default printer. As long as the Service has rights to read/write to the registry there should be no problem.
To fully test I need an example or two of the HTML and TXT files that would be processed. In light of my state of readiness on this project, I can deliver a version for testing two business days following your acceptance, and delivery of this example data.
Thank you for your consideration. I hope that you select my bid for this project. Best Regards, Carl Penman
