Independent Consulting assignments have been in the Insurance, Educational, Sports Entertainment and Construction/Manufacturing industries. Work experience has been in the mainframe systems, client/server and WEB based applications. Consultant Heartland Industrial Partners
Developed, tested and implemented an MS Access 2000 database application that processes statistical automobile build and projected sales information. The application receives monthly input from Collins & Aikman as well as JD Power and Associates. Automobile build and projected sales information is viewed by product managers in the USA and abraod. Extensive us of Visual Basic, SQL and Crystal reports was used for this project.
Consultant ESPN
Participated as a Consultant for the re-launch of ESPNews television shows. My primary role was Team Leader and Developer charged with developing a Sports Research Application. This application was to maintain some 200 individual data input templates and Sports Trivia information called "tidbits". The information entered into the application would subsequently get stored in an Oracle Database and later retrieved using Vertigo Producer for on air viewing.
Created and supervised the development of a special application, that would capture template layout information, for all 200+ templates and store this data in the Oracle Database. This application was developed in Visual Basic, Access 2000, and ADO 2.5.
Created and developed the Sports Research Application user interface, using Visual Basic, XML, Oracle and ADO 2.5. This application relied on accurate template layout information stored in the database. This application would use the form's control coordinate information, stored in the database, to draw a particular template when the end user would request it. The data entered onto the template, from the end user, would then be made into an XML string and stored in the database. Later this information would be retrieved and displayed on air. Using Visual Interdev, Active Server Pages, VBScript, constructed an intranet application to test the accuracy of the XML data stored in the database. The user utilized this application as means to preview data and format information prior to going to air.
Created and supervised the development of a Sports Trivia application. The application was developed using Visual Basic, Oracle, and ADO 2.5. Its function was to capture sports related tidbits, from ESPN's Research Department, and store them in the database. These tidbits would later be retrieved from the database and displayed on air.
Consultant Contractor Software Solutions
Managed the design and development of an estimating program for Roofing and Siding Contractors. This application was developed in MS Access/SQL Server as well as Visual Basic, XML, JSCRIPT and C++.
Consultant Profitec
Converted several Microfocus COBOL programs into Visual Basic Applications that interfaced with a SQL Server 6.5/7.0 database backend. The project focused on handing cellular telephone billing records. In addition to the Visual Basic programming, I also did performance tuning on the database server.
Consultant Yale University
Converted legacy Payroll and Human Resource systems from the IBM Mainframe environment to Oracle client server. This project utilized my Visual Basic, IBM COBOL and Oracle database expertise.
