In Enterprise Manager right click the server you whish to stop this on and click properties.
Now on the properties dialog click the top button at the bottom of the General Tab labeled "Startup Parameters".
The new dialog will have several items under Existing Parameters. The following items will be in there by default:
-dX:\PLUS\PATH\TO\MASTERDB
-lX:\PLUS\PATH\TO\MASTERLOG
-eX:\PLUS\PATH\TO\SQLLOGS\AND\LOGFIRSTNAME
To disable SQL Server Logs make sure any extra trace parameters you added are remove and leave only the defaults and then remove the item that starts -e. Keep in mind though that if errors are happening on your server you just lost your friend (of course you can add him back).
Personally though I would move him to another drive so it's writing has no affect of DB read and writes if it was installed to the same drive by default. To do this remove the -e item and put back following the example layout above but to the new drive and path you want.
Also another helpful thing may be to change the name. On my machine the entry was
-eD:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG
so I remove and replaced with
-eD:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\LOG\SQLServerLog
Now when someone looks in that folder it will make sense what they are looking at.
You may also wonder what the .1, .2, etc. files are. They are previous logs that have broken off. ERRORLOG is always what you see under Current and then .1 is the previous either broken of due to a restart/reboot or because the Current reached a certain number of entries. | |
