     It is now possible to get any environment variable through SQL with this simple stored procedure. Unfortunately, there is apparently no "cleaner" way to do it. Enclosing the plumbing in a stored procedure surely cleans it up a little.

Even though it's an "ugly" way of doing 
it, it is the "only" way...  This code 
also helped me do some tricky stuff.
