Description:
Whenever I visit a website, I want this app to automatically replace certain data strings with whatever strings I want *PRIOR* to being rendered in my browser.
This replacement information will reside in a data file, the contents of which would look something like this:
"foo" = "bar" "FOO" = "BAR" "whatever it says here" = "replace it with this"
This app needs to replace data strings in scripts (javascript, vbscript, etc.) as well as plain old HTML, and also on scripts that are called using the [script src=""] tag.
I need to be able to enter as many replacement instructions as I want, one per line.
When user installs app, icon resides in Sys Tray, and a right-click produces three clickable options:
a) Toggle on/off b) Remove icon from systray c) Update
The first two are pretty self-explanatory.
But if a user clicks Update, the application will retrieve the contents of a certain file online, let's call it...
http://www.foobar.com/update.txt
... and then populate the data file by overwriting it with the current contents of the update.txt file. (Please give friendly error message if user isn't connected.)
I know how to do this in PERL (by using a simple GET command and then use pattern matching and replacing), but now I need a desktop app, and I don't know enough VB or C to do this myself.
Thanks for bidding, and let me know if you have any questions.

I can write this program for you.
The application will, once installed, reside in the taskbar with option to hide the taskbar icon (or quit, you are not clear on that). When enabled, it will run as a local proxy and change IE's proxy settings on the computer to patch all connections through this proxy. The proxy will accept requests from the browser and forward them to the Internet. When the proxy detects the list-specified strings in a text/html file contained in the reply, it will replace these with the appropriate change-strings from the list. When disabled, the application will restore IE's proxy settings. Also a feature to update the list as you describe.
Will be written in C++ using MS Visual Studio 7 and Win32 API. Installer included.
Previous experience includes TCP connection redirection software, and remote desktop control via an HTTP web interface. |
