Description:
Hi,
I need a software for easy extraction of website content (all flavours of website, there is not a specific website for which I need this. It must work for all.).
As you know, if you save a site in IE, then everything is saved, including navi-buttons, logos, banners etc. But mostly you just want an article which is on a website.
For this I want a Wizard which is included in IE. So there should be a new button in the button-bar of MS Internet Explorer. If you click on it, a wizard appears where you can set which part of the website you want to save. There can be two solutions for it:
a) some DHTML is added to the website source, so that the single parts of the website (row-content of table etc.) is highlighted when the user moves over it with the mouse-cursor. By pressing for example Ctrl-LeftMouseButton he then can select the part he wants and save it. -> see screenshot in attachement.
b) a second solution could be that the wizard searches for the article. As you can imagine, the article will be mostly the row-content of the table with the most letters. So, all what needs to be done is parse the website - count the words and like this you can find out where the main-article of the website is. The wizard could then ask the user step-by-step: Is this part the one which you want? etc. The user could then Skip or Accept. If he press button Skip (or Next) then the wizard shows him another part of the website etc.
! Is is very importing to know that I do NOT want solution with "standard-highlighting" like you can see in one of the attached screenshots.
Saving must be in different formats like flatfile, xml, clipboard, odbc.
Thanks for your interest in this project.

Hi
I have created a preliminary demo that does exactly what you are looking for. The program has been attached. I have tested this on Internet Explorer 6.
The file name is called 'PopupStopper' but you can ignore that because I based this demo off a popupstopper I was working on.
Just run the install.bat script. Open a new IE window, right click the toolbar and select 'PopupStopper' from the list. Again please ignore the name 'PopupStopper' :)
Then go to a webpage, make sure the page is fully loaded and then click the button 'PopupStopper'. You can now move your mouse in the browser window to observe the effect - you can also ctrl-left click anywhere to see a message box that contains the HTML code for the selected section. Of course, in the regular version I can export this code segment by various methods with formatting etc.
Then again, this is just a preliminary demo that shows this project can be done, this version may contain bugs.
