Description:
I am looking for a system that can import 3 different fixed width text files and import them into Access. From Access the user should be able to get a date range of data in the form of a report which then can be exported into Excel.
The text files are prn type files and therefore the header type information does not need to be imported. There will be 3 different format files. All 3 files have the same code for indexing i.e. 2100 = cigarettes / tobacco. The end result is a management report with bits of information from each file.
Please have a look at the attached 3 sample files as well as a sample output file.
There should be a import facility which will allow the user to import a specific file type (i.e. purchase, sales or Mark up/down) for a specific day.
The final report needs to be in Excel so that it can be easily portable.
In Access there may need to be an additional table containing the following fields: Code Description Department. You will notice in the sample files that certain codes are grouped into departments. Departmental Sub totals and totals do not need to be imported as these will be recalculated when producung the output.
Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
Win98 & XP VB Access 2000 Excel 2000
Must be 100% finished and received by buyer on:

My bother and I work as a team. We have done a lot of work like this, though we are new to RentaACoder.
The price offered is a 'loss leader' as we need need to get some good ratings.
I am already working on the import routines.
Hope to hear from you.

Just a quick update.
Parsing of the Mark Up/Down is complete, together with data transfer to Access DB.
The parsing routine will now need slight modification to handle the Profit and Purchases reports.
Once that is done, I will write the Excel routines to produce the final report.

Further update.
Design of the queries to extract data for the final report is in progress.
An issue with respect to the Access DB has arisen:-
What is the lifetime of the Access data? Will all data be added to the same Access DB, with manual archiving as appropriate? Or would you prefer to be able to choose a named Access DB on each run, re-using a DB if it exists, or creating a new one if it does not exist?
