Description:
I have a great little routine written by another author that has worked great for reading very large files, except for this one file that it doesn't read. I get a "Input past end of file" error. I've included the project and sample text file. The strange thing is if you load it into Notepad and just resave it, the routine loads it fine.

I don't want to use the InputLine function because I need to be able to read in very large files fast.

I'm using a common routine to write the file:
NextFree = FreeFile
Open App.Path & "\File.txt" For Output As #NextFree
Print #NextFree, MyData
Close #NextFree

Greetings, my name is Christopher Reason and I am a Microsoft Certified Professional. I have reviewed your code and example text file and have come to the conclusion that your error does not reside within your code. The error is due to an unexpected "Null Character" within the text file.

Open your sample text file that you included in your project and look for the following segment of text:
    notsgniKÞloCdiV¤ 40-6425-2001/orP
Now, delete the space just before the "40" and then hit your spacebar to put it back in. Save the file and run your project again. You will now see that this is working once again.

This "space" is actually a "Null Character" or a "Null Terminating String" written to the file. When your InputB$ function starts reading the file, it finds this character and 'thinks' that it is done, yet there is more text to read. Thus the "input past end of file" error.

I hope that you find this information helpful and that you will accept my bid. If you are interested in knowing how I came to my conclusion, I will be happy to explain more once you have accepted my bid.

   If you have a few moments, I would like to invite you to review my resume and client comments regarding my performance on past RAC projects, just click on my name above. Thank you for taking the time to review my bid and for considering me to provide you with the solution that you are looking for. And as always, I wish you the best of luck in reaching your goals.
