In fact, I have developed a prototype to demonstrate how the application will work. Since the prototype is not fully functional, I would need one day once you accept this bid. When you invoke the prototype, you would be able to see an icon added to system tray. Right click on this icon, a menu would appear. This menu would provide ability to control / configure your application like start monitoring, stop monitoring, and configuring. The configuration item in this menu would open up a dialog box where you would be able to specify directory path to monitor, destination path, the ODBC DSN to use, the database user and password. Also you would be able to specify the directory to place XML files that had errors when inserting to the database. The prototype is implemented only till this stage. To install the prototype, extract all the files from prototype.zip in a directory, and invoke setup.exe and follow the instructions. Once installed, invoke the application from start menu, (Directory Monitor Prototype). Additional coding i.e. monitoring directory, copying files, parsing XML and inserting into DB will take an additional day. About monitoring, I have achieved it by periodically polling the directory (I know this is not what you want), I am searching for ways to have automatic notifications, as you require. The code will be properly documented with standard VB naming conventions. It is developed in VB6. Is there anything else that I am missing out? Do let me know if you need anything else too.
