Description:
There are web pages that get updated from time to time. Write a script and an administrative interface to monitor URLs for changes and notify via email when changes occur.
1) Administrator interface - lets users log in / create accounts
* Add/Modify/Delete watched URLs
* Each watched URL:
- url
- frequency to check (hour, day, week)
- email to send to if updated (options to email: url only, web page contents, web page and updated linked files [like new PDFs linked to from the page] as attachments)
* Use mysql to store this information
2) Cron job that executes in the background monitoring the URLs as set in the database
Deliverables:
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.

Linux
PHP or Perl preferred
Database link to mysql
Must be 100% finished and received by buyer on:
Feb 1, 2003 EDT
Deadline legal notes: All times are expressed in the time zone of the site EDT (UT - 5). If the buyer omitted a time, then the deadline is 11:59:59 PM EDT on the indicated date.
Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business projects < $500 (before the buyer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the software buyer and seller agreements.
We monitor all site activity for such violations and can instantly expel transgressers on the spot, so we thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I am a Perl scripting expert
able to code your scripts
within a week.
The Perl/CGI admin script will
permit users to register URLs
for monitoring according to
your specifications. The script
will store data into a MySQL
database.
I can extend an admin script I
wrote to verify URLs to also
retrieve contents and the first level
links to compare to cached data.
This script will run as a cron
job, checking any URLs due for
monitoring.
I intend to use publicly available
Perl modules for fetching webpage
contents. With your permission,
your admin interface will be
constructed from HTML templates.
