There is a new feature of the PDF 1.4 spec which describes Reference XObjects. These are covered in section 4.9.3 of the PDF 1.4 spec, which is available on-line at: <a href="http://partners.adobe.com/asn/developer/acrosdk/docs/filefmtspecs/PDFReference.pdf">http://partners.adobe.com/asn/developer/acrosdk/docs/filefmtspecs/PDFReference.pdf</a> Presently, this feature is not supported by Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, but it is a part of the PDF specification. I would like to develop a plugin for Acrobat that would allow display and printing of Reference XObject pages when the referenced file is embedded as a file stream. The plugin would also need to include a feature to insert an external document into the current document as an embedded file stream and link to it from the main document via Reference XObjects. In the current application, this would involve inserting only one-page documents so that it would not be necessary to deal with the difficulties of multi-page documents and where each page is referenced. This plugin would be developed in Microsoft Visual C++ (version 6.0) using the most recent version of the Adobe Acrobat SDK (release 4) and Acrobat version 5. The SDK is available for free download from the Adobe developer site. The coder will need to have the "full" version of Adobe Acrobat (release 5) for testing. See the attached ZIP file for a more detailed specification. Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased. The proxy object on the inserted page will be a standard "placeholder" page with a simple text message saying that a plug-in is needed to view the page. - If the inserted document has more than one page, or if the plug-in is used to view a PDF file that has a Reference XObject referencing a multi-page file, then only the first page will be viewed. All subsequent pages will be ignored. - If the plug-in encounters a page created by some other application that has more than one Reference XObject on it, then only the first Reference XObject encountered will be displayed. - The primary point of the plugin is to support pages inserted/referenced by itself.
