Description:
We have an existing program that exports our race data to an Excel file. We have created a web site that is used to view the races results, but runs from an Access database. We need something to get the Excel Data into the Access database automatically via a web interface.
I have a perl script that can FTP from a html page to a specified directory on our server.
What I would like created is an ASP script that will read a directory on our server where the excel file was FTPed to and import that data into the Access database. After the existing FTP script is run I will have this new ASP page launched.
There are two distinct types of files reconisable by their file name and when FTPed will also have the date appended to the file name. The only difference between the two files is the types of races, and the outputed excel file setup is slightly different.
Basically, with both tables the first few rows within the excel file (1 to 4) have the race information (Date, place, competitors, etc) this information goes into one table "Venue" to generate the race and race key. The remaining rows (6 - ???) have the records (places, prize money, name of competitor etc.) this data is to go into another table "Placings" with the race key. The access database is already set up and remains in the same directory as the Excel files will go.
We are using a commercial server for our web hosting so have limited access to register DLL's, however, our existing site is already runing OK with the Access database, we just need a way to get our outputed data files into it with out re-typing.
The attached ZIP file has of copy of each of the two excel files and the database.
Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code which is well commented of all work done.
2) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.

Hello,
Like to help you out.
Would first like to see samples of the excel files you are using. It it's possible, .zip them up and attach them at RentACoder.
I plan on using ADO to open the excel files as a data source and then import the data into your access database as you have described. I just want to make sure that the format you have your excel files in will permit this.
If the excel files are workable, I can have a solution for you in a day's time.
