Description:
I need a program similar to America Online 8.0 or AOL 7.0. It will be a web browser and an email client. It must be written in Visual Basic 6.0, have an MDI Interface, and have the following abilities:
(1). Send email in text or html format. It must be able to send multiple attachments and be compatible with Outlook Express 100%.
(2). Receive email in text or html format. It must be able to handle multiple attachments and be compatible with Outlook Express 100%. MIME support.
(3). Needs to be able to set itself as the default email client automatically and check for that on startup. And needs to respond to "mailto:" urls the same way Outlook Express does.
(4). Browse the internet the same way Internet Explorer does it. Doesn't need to have FTP or anything special. Just needs to be able to browse the web.
(5). If a user right clicks, and selects to "Open in a new window" or if a web site uses Pop ups, they must open in another mdi child window inside the program.
(6). Needs to be able to set itself as the default web browser automatically and check for that on startup. And needs to respond to "http" urls the same Internet Explorer does it.
(7). All this needs to be integrated into one program the same way America Online 7.0 or 80. does it.
(8). All the menu functions that are in the screen shot. Although only the Email stuff(Check, Create) and the web browser stuff(web, search, address bar, favorites) must actually work. The other stuff, Chat and what not doesn't have to do anything.
I have included three screen shots showing the sign on screen, main screen with the welcome screen, and the main screen with the browser running.
Note: The sign on screen needs to load as an mdi child and doesn't need an authentication routine, I will add that later. The Email can use either pop3 or mapi but must be exactly like using AOLs email system.
To put it simply, I need software that has the email, and web browsing features of AOL 7.0\8.0. Preferably 8.0.
Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete Visual Basic 6.0 source code of all work done.
2) All files required to create an installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
Windows 98SE, NT, 2000, XP.
Must be 100% finished and received by buyer on:
Nov 24, 2002 EDT
Deadline legal notes: All times are expressed in the time zone of the site EDT (UT - 5). If the buyer omitted a time, then the deadline is 11:59:59 PM EDT on the indicated date.

Hi Norad,
I have read your project request, and am confident I can complete the work to your satisfaction, within the time allocated. I've been programming for nearly four years now, and programming in VB for over two. I run www.winsockvb.com in my spare time, and am a moderator of www.visualbasicforum.com, one of the largest and most respected forums online.
I have worked extensively with networking protocols - SMTP and POP3 for email, and can receive and transmit mail, including attachments, which will be fully Outlook compliant. (Actually, the emails will be fully RFC compliant, but Outlook is also compliant to the same RFCs, so it's the same thing really) The webbrowsing software is extremely simple, and I have no problems with MDI technology.
I do have a question though - would you like the application to look like AOL as well? Would you like the application to be skinned, or skinnable (perhaps in future versions)?
I don't use AOL myself, but I can send you prototypes of the application during development, so that you can point out where i've gone wrong in designing the interface. All my work comes with unlimited technical support, should you need further assistance later on down the line.
Please consider my bid open for negotiation, and ask any questions you may have :)
Regards, Will Barden |
