Description:
PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE PLACING A BID!

Needed a programmer with extensive Visual Basic and Internet programming knowledge to modify and build on a pre-existing multi-tab “Opera” like Web-browser (for visual reference look at the enclosed screenshot), written in pure VB6.

What you would need to add is a comprehensive internet advertising filtering and blocking capability, which should be user friendly, and would serve the following 5 functions:

1. Block pop-up / pop under ads:

Block all new windows that do not meet the following three rules:

A. Automatically close all new windows if the new window&'s title is among a list of banned titles, which will reside on an external text file on the user&'s HD.

B. Automatically close all “pop-ups” if they have the following attributes: FullScreen = True and / or MenuBar = False.

C. If the new window passed both rules, the program should ask the user if he wishes to open the new window (yes, no, or ban site altogether). I&'ve enclosed a very simple VB code that does this function for clarification (look at WatchIE example).

MOST IMPORTANT POINT: Currently all new windows are being opened in a new tab, all modifications should not disturb this functionality. Therefore, would need to block new windows that do not pass these rules (easiest way would be the “cancel = true” function) before opening a new tab!

2. Block all internet advertising (i.e., “banners”)

Block all forms of ad “banners” (gifs, jpegs, animated flash, java script, etc.) following 2 rules, and replacing those ads with a transparent gif.

The two rules are:

A. By size (any media object with the regular banner size. i.e., 468x60 & 728x90 pixels).

B. By proxy filtering (block and replace any incoming data from a predetermined list of banned servers. The list should be stored on a text file, which will reside on the user&'s HD).

3. Web accelerator

Enable faster page downloading time by allowing the user to choose if he wants the following to be turned on / off:

Flash autoplay
Java Script timers & Meta Refresh
Warning dialogs
Web page&'s background
Music (WAV, MP3, Etc.)
Animated gifs
Any movie media

4. Cookie buster & cleanser

Enable the user to choose if he wants to accept or reject cookies, plus allow the user to wipe out clean all the cookies with a touch of a button.

5. History cleanser

Enable the user to wipe out the Internet Explorer&'s history with a touch of a button

Deliverables:
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.

Platform:
Visual Basic 6

Internet Explorer 4.0 and above

Version running on any version of Windows 98 or higher, including Windows XP and NT

Hi,

I like the style you want your browser to behave. But you've to consider that the DOM Model changed from IE 4 to IE 5. I don't see any problems in implementing your features, except the warning dialogs, 'cause they are handled by the security settings of IE. There has to be an registry hack, to prevent the warning dialogs to appear.

Hope to hear from you...

Regards

Christoph
