Description:
I'm part of a group doing some educational research and we're gathering the questionnaire results using face to face interviews. The interviewer's notes will be used to enter data into the database.
Some of the survey questions will be yes/no/don't know, some will be a numerical values, some will be multiple choice, and some will be open-ended. The important thing is that we must be able to pull up and sort any combination of the data from all the records and all the survey questions. We must be able to sort as follows:
1) By survey record (a numeric ID we will assign to each survey) 2) By name of interviewee (last name, first) 3) By letter-code assigned position of interviewee (a letter code we will come up with) 4) By ACTUAL position of interviewee (a text-based description) 5) By individual conducting the interview (last name, first name) 6) By date of interview (00/00/00) 7) By district name (text field, ie., East River School District) 8) sort by survey question
Each survey question will need two fields. One will be a field for a coded answer - either numeric or text answer (ie., Y for yes, N for no and D for Don't Know). The other field required for each survey question will be a "comments" field to record ACTUAL interviewee answers/comments for that question, for later study, if necessary.
For Yes/No questions, a simple Y, N or D (Don't Know) will do. In cases where a numeric answer is expected a whole number might not be used, we need to allow for fractions (ie., "How long have you had an building plan in place?") If the response is 1.5 years, we need to be able to add that to other responses and divide by the total to get an average for that question.
We'll also need to generate a current overview for the database, something like this...
=========================== Survey Database (Currently 9 Records, latest entry August 12, 2002)
QUESTION 1 YES(3/30%) NO(3/33%) DON'T KNOW(3/33%)
QUESTION 2 LOW(1.5) HIGH(5.5) AVE(3.5) DATA = 1.5, 2, 2, 1, 1, 4, 4, 4, 5.5
QUESTION 3 A(1/11%) B(3/33%) C(5/55%) D(0) E(0) ======================================================
We'll also need to be able to export data to a CSV file, tab delimmted file, or a text file and either show it on the screen save it to disk, or email it as an attachment.
