Description:
I want an VB program with an MS-Access backend (datafiles) that will look at all folders (designated/setup) that contain email messages and I want to suck these into a simple MS-Access database file. On the first occurrence I want it to initially populate the data table and then when the user runs this program in the future I want the program to merely APPEND new email messages to the data table.
In this data table we would have a field that specifies if this email mail was an incoming message or one that was sent by me. In addition it would have a field that shows what its path was (or what folder it resided in -- where it came from, in other words).
This program must also suck in the information in the user's Address file (in the email program)and each email's source being known by the program so that one could easily View / Restrict the viewing of the emails from or to any individual email address/person.
The main aspect or purpose of this program besides simply Archiving your entire email files...is to more easily have the email saved in an organized fashion (based on the From or To fields).
This is a "work-For-Hire" project as I intend to use this program as a Freeware or Shareware program to work in conjunction with a PR/Marketing Campaign. I am willing to include a hyperlink to the programmer's email or website if you so desire however. The program and all rights and source code must remain with my company - Small Business Systems of St. Louis.
An example of a Shareware program that is similar to this idea --but much more limited-- is one called "MailSafe". It is limited only to the Inbox and is always overlaying the existing Access file.
Also this only needs to be created to work with Outlook Express (for now). Thanks Dave

Hello,
I'm Doyle and I would be interested in developing such a VBA program. I have accumulated experience with VBA programming, mostly Access related, when developing a database of MP3 files for my own use, using macros and VBA code to handle it (adding from playlists, directory; searching, exporting filtered data etc.)
The problem with your project is that Outlook Express doesn't support automation (is not a COM Server) so the actual extraction of emails must be done 'by hand', by decompiling the database file. I currently have specifications only for the Outlook Express ver. 5 DBXes, which I think is the version shipped with Win98 (I haven't used OE for a long time now). I haven't searched the internet recently on this subject so there could be a newer version of the specifications somewhere. If you're interested, let me know and I'll begging searching immediately. Hope to hear from you (soon)...
Regards, Doyle. |
