Description:
1. Conversion utility will work on an opened Word document, and will process one document at a time. 2. The user will have the following options for splitting up the document: a. Page by page (the utility will provide feedback as to the number of pages) b. Section by section (determined by user-defined styles in the document). The utility will provide feedback as to the number of sections and the approximate size of each. c. Entire document 3. The user will be prompted for the “base” filename and path, to which a series number will be assigned, based on the order of the PDF file. For example: a. If a document has ten pages, and the page-by-page method was chosen, the PDF file name will be Filename-P001.pdf through Filename-P010.pdf. b. If a document has fifteen sections, the PDF file names will be Filename-S001.pdf through Filename-S015.pdf c. Small PDF files (less than one page of text that do not contain a graphic, table, or chart will be marked with an “x” appended to the filename, e.g. Filename-P007x.pdf 4. PDF files may be encrypted to prevent editing, copying, printing, annotating, or opening without a password. 5. Please investigate the possibility of saving filenames and associated section and page headings to an Access database.
I would expect that you would need to use some kind of 3rd party tool or driver to actually create the PDF file. You would make the dialog box and inteface to drive this tool to create the required files.

I think this should be a fairly easy task if the program in question would actualy be a Word macro which does the work on opened Word document. I have a pretty high degree of experience in writing such VBA programs, for my own use mostly. I think the tricky part would be generating the pdf. But with the help of third party tools (is that ok?) it can be done (ex. PDFFactory is a pretty fine piece of software). Please take my bid into consideration! Thank you, Doyle. |
