LIST MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Description:
I'd like a simple application for managing email/phone# lists. The program's MAIN FUNCTION is to remove duplicate/unwanted entries. The program should be SIMPLE - The description below is somewhat lengthly, but I wanted to give a complete description to avoid wasted worktime.
SEE ATTACHED GRAPHIC FOR SAMPLE INTERFACE.
Sample/example user session:
1) User opens a text file that shows NEW entries. The data appears in FIELD 1.
2) User opens a text file that shows a list of "unwanted" entries. The data appears in FIELD 2.
3) User opens another text file of entries in FIELD 3. This is the "master" list.
4) User presses a button... Any address that appears in field 1 AND NOT in field 2 AND NOT in field 3 is then added to FIELD 4.
5) User may save FIELD 4 to a text file or copy contents to clipboard.
6) User presses another button which combines FIELD 3 + 4 into FIELD 5. This may be saved to text file or copied to clipboard.
NOTES:
a. Program should run efficiently in Windows 95,98,2000,XP, and be able to handle a large number of entries.
b. When importing a list, program should be able to pull from comma,line,tab delimited file, and convert to line delimited.
c. Needs to have registration system (ie. the save/copy to clipboard features only work if the user has registered the software. The registration can be simple -- something like entering any number between 111111111 and 999999999 that is a divisible by 17).
SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND THE PROGRAMS USE:
I will be faxing or emailing to a list of recipients. When I receive a new list of contacts, that list will be imported into FIELD 1. If a previous recipient has replied and does not want to to be contacted again, their info would be placed in the text file that is imported into FIELD 2. To be sure that we don't contact any recipient more than once for one campaign, all previously contacted recipients will be added to the text file that is imported into FIELD 3. After those three fields are imported, I press the button to get a "clean" list of recipients to be contacted now (appearing in FIELD 4). I then contact those people. FIELD 5 then becomes the entries that will be imported into FIELD 3 for the next marketing campaign.

Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business projects < $500 (before the buyer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the software buyer and seller agreements.

Dear Sir,
I've read carefully through your description and I think it won't be a problem. I can finish your program within few days - less than a week - from acceptance and build in all the requirements you ask for, like importing various file formats. I already have some of the code ready in a separate project that I could use here (list management / sorting).
Next - program speed in this app will mainly depend on sorting algorithm speed, which in turn depends on programming language being used. I would prefer to make crucial parts as a C++ dll (works faster than an ActiveX) and user interface in Visual Basic. You will have full source code of both, of course, easy to maintain and read code commented so that your grandma can figure out what's being done and why.
I will make UI part well separated from core parts so you can change UI easily without having to adjust other parts of the code.
