Description:
I need a routine that I can call from VBA (access 2000, access 2002) that will veirfy an email address by doing a an MX lookup and contact the Remote SMTP server to see if it is a deliverable address.
The routine can be done in anything (delpi,c++, etc). My preference would be a routine written completely in VBA and bid preference will be given to that.
If must be callable from VBA with a method. The method should return weither or not the email address is valid, and if invalid, what the reason for being invalid is.
Deliverables:
Code and dll must be clean, well written and very well documented. No memory leaks.
Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
Complete copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
Windows 98, 2K, XP
Access 2000 and 2002

hi!
Will be done using Visual basic/WIN32 API as a VBA code module or a DLL.
This program will verify/check the following...
1) Email Address Syntax is OK (check for the precence of (at) and . etc)
2) Domain Part of the email address exists (i.e if the Email address is like someone(at)somewhere.com, it verifies 'somewhere.com' exists)
3) Domain has a working mail server (MX Lookup).
4) Mail server did not reject email address (Do an SMTP session using winsock and interpret the response codes) .
However, regarding point no 4 mnetioned above, plaese note that, Some SMTP servers do not reject addresses of unknown users for a variety of reasons, including:
1) They're simply accepting mail to pass on to another server and thus have no idea what users are valid on the destination server.
2) The server has been configured to forward all unknown user email to an administrator.
3) Administrators have configured the server to accept any username to prevent hackers and spammers from guessing usernames and using SMTP to check their guesses.
In view of the above stated, A 'successful' validation does not guarantee a 100% good email address.
This is next best to actually sending email to an email address and getting a response from your intended recipient.
