The interface should be similar to the now standard audio editing that can be found in adobe premiere, final cut, etc. Tracks will be displayed horizontally on a timeline. (see attached picture). The program should: 1. Support multiple mono or stereo tracks (selectable). 2. Playback multiple tracks at the same time 3. Allow you to “solo” a track or “mute” of 1 or more tracks. 4. Have “rubber bands” on each track to adjust volume points & fades. 5. Have “rubber bands” that allow panning of tracks. 6. Allow positioning of sound files within each track. (e.g. track 1 may contain 2 sound files that play one after the other). Must allow dragging and nudging of the file(s) within the track&'s timeline. 7. Have a timeline that can be snapped to for positioning audio. 8. Have overall track volume control for each track and a master volume control for all tracks 9. Allow the user to output a “mix down” audio file, a single .wav with all tracks mixed together or just selected tracks. Also allow output in .mp3 format. 10. Allow the user to load/import different sound files including .wav and .mp3 11. Allow “punch in” recording of one track while other tracks play. For example, we have a guitar on track 1; while it plays, we can choose to record vocals on track 2 (if the sound card supports this). 12. Allow you to highlight sections of the timeline for playback. 13. Have a simple audio editor built-in, which allows you to trim sound files. 14. Have simple audio filters like: echo and normalization. 15. Allow you to specify an external audio editor which can be used to perform more difficult filters. Note: This does NOT have to be a super-high end audio program that does everything. I just want something that will work for most home-based musicians who do this type of thing for fun.
