All products will be in a category or subcategory (nested categories). With in the product cycle, most products are ACTIVE and some are INACTIVE. Every month, product updates will come from manufacture in an Excel format. I need a program to read against the two files to make product updates. This process will check against the item number in a specific Category or Manufacturer. a) If item number exist on both file UPDATE PRICE only. b) If item number exists in product data file and not in new Excel update, this can have two actions 1) Make these items INACTIVE. 2) Output these entries to an Excel file to prompt user to review these item for INACTIVE request, at this point the product data file will not change to inactive status yet. This file will have Category, Manufacture, Item number, Description, and Active fields in excel format. The user will review the default to be inactive status and have option to change back to active. This file will load back to the program to make ACTIVE/INACTIVE update. c) If item number exists in new Excel update and not in product data file. Copy these items to a new Excel file for import as NEW ITEMS. I will provide import file template. The product data file name is items.xls The category file name is category.xls The manufacturer file name is manufact.xls The field headings you need to work with are the following: ITEMNO (ITEM NUMBER), CATEGORY (CATEGORY), MANUCODE (MANUFACTURER), DESC (DESCRIPTION), SELLPRIC (PRICE), ACTIVE (ITEM ACTIVE, T/F) The CATEGORY field is a category code. When display category, link to category.xls and use the DESC.category.xls the description of the category. Base on the Category.xls, I also need a program in excel VBA to pragmatically using the new manufacturer update to do a lookup of the category.xls The manufacturer update will have multiply sub-categories and items. By using the macro look up, to the parent category. This will enable the manufacturer spreadsheet to match the right category code or manufacturer code to make ready for update to be use by the above program. This step is necessary to update ACTIVE items and not to make the rest of the items INACTIVE. For example: I buy 5% item from manufacture X, by using excel I need to identify items only belong to Manufacture X. and maintain the update, or else the program will make the 95% of the items INACTIVE.
