Description:
We work in video production and often have to encode large numbers of files into streaming media formats, then append the file names which result with a letter, for example "h" to indicate that it is encoded for high-speed access. We do this now by hand. What we need is a simple "File Renamer" program which will append a letter or letters to all the files in a folder. For example, a folder might contain files named 234.avi, 235.avi, 236.avi. After going through File Renamer, if we want to add "w" to it, the files in that folder would then have the names 234w.avi, 235w.avi, 236w.avi. Note the file extention does not change, just the name before the period. Here's how the program would work: after opening the program you'd be presented with a screen that says "In what folder do you want to rename ALL the files?" There would be a browse button allowing you to select the folder by browsing to it. Below that the screen would say "What letter or letters would you like to append to every file?" There would be an input box allowing for anywhere from 1 to 10 alpha-numeric characters. Below that would be a button that says "Rename Files". After the program runs a screen would come up that says, for example, "16 files successfully renamed. Rename files in another folder?" You then have the option of yes or exit. If one chooses yes and goes back to the first screen, the browse button would then "remember" the last folder it worked on, and that would be the starting point for browsing to a new folder. That's it! We'd need simple, idiot-proof installation and a robust program that doesn't crash the computer or mess up any system files or anything like that. We run three computers, one on Windows 98, one Windows ME and Windows XP.
Deliverables: Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
Complete copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
As noted above.

Hello,
I've made a small app as per your specs... please run it and check it out. I'm sure you'll get a lot of bids for this one,so here are the highlights for mine:
* The main feature is the desktop integration: After you run this app once, it will automatically add itself to your folders. From then on, you can just right-click on a folder and select 'Rename Files' from the menu. You will be asked for the suffix to add, and all the work will be done. If you prefer to run the program, rather than launch it from the directory, the app will detect that, and will ask you for the directory to use.
* The app will report how many files OUT OF how many files, and which files were successfully renamed. If there is some error such as sharing violation etc., the app will let you know which file was not renamed (but will till try to rename the other files - it won't stop because of one error, like Windows does!).
* The app first builds an internal list of files, and then renames them (instead of renaming files as it finds them): this gets around a Windows bug which causes windows to treat a newly renamed file as a new file, and will come again in the search, and other programs MAY rename it again (thus adding the suffux twice!)
This app is in Delphi, and when you see the code you will realize how optimized it is (it doesn't even create unnecessary windows/dialogs till it needs them!)
I'm new here, looking for a good rating... please let me know what you think of the app even if you don't select my bid. I've tried this on Win98/SE, but it should work on all platforms (if it doesn't, I can make that happen).
Regards
Sumit. |
