Description:
We need someone to develop a small application that will run from a CD-ROM.
Currently this client permits students to connect their computers to the school LAN from their dormatory rooms. However, it is always very cumbersome and time-consuming for the students to set the correct TCP/IP settings (assign a unique ID, set IP settings, etc.) to get their computer to connect on the network.
We are seeking bids for a CD-based software application that automatically and reliably creates the proper settings to establish the network connection for Win 98, 98SE, ME, NT, 2000, and XP clients based on a set of (changeable) default settings specified in your program's preferences section and an algorithm that assures unique client IDs.
We will supply the required settings upon request.
Your bid must include a price, a completion time frame, and a list of what exact information you need from the client.
Deliverables: Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
Complete copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
Win 98, 98SE, ME, NT, 2000, and XP
Must be 100% finished and received by buyer on:
May 30, 2002 EDT
Deadline legal notes: All times are expressed in the time zone of the site EDT (UT - 5). If the buyer omitted a time, then the deadline is 11:59:59 PM EDT on the indicated date.
Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business projects < $500 (before the buyer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the software buyer and seller agreements.
We monitor all site activity for such violations and can instantly expel transgressers on the spot, so we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
If you notice a violation please help out the site and report it. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I've made the code work on Win98/ME/2000/XP.... so that's a whole lot of systems. It didn't take as long as I expected.
I need to know if you would want to set up the client computer for Internet Access via the server, or to access the server via Network Neighborhood. Also, will you be assigning static IP addresses (in which case, what will be the criteria for chosing the IP since everyone will get the same copy of the software on the CD), or would you be using DHCP for dynamically alloting the IP addresses?
Also, I noticed in your original specs that you mentioned 'assign a unique ID,'... what is this unique ID, and what is it used for? Like I said in my earlier mail, it will be great if you could send me a list of things that are currently done manually, so I have an idea.
More when I get your feedback on the demo.
Regards
Sumit.

Hello,
I was wondering if you've been able to try out the app I had sent to you. The app I sent earlier (with the fixed subnet) only worked on 98/ME. I'm working on a system which will identify if the drivers also haven't been installed, in which case it will ask for the Windows disks and install the drivers too.
Also, I realized that my earlier demo, in which the random subnet was being installed, might have caused you some inconveniences (your machine would have gone out of your network). If this has caused any problems of any sort, I'm extremely sorry, it was a very silly thing to do. Anyway, the demo I sent to you last is fully functional.
Please do let me know if you'd like to see any other functionality in the demo.
Regards
Sumit.
