Senior Capstone Project: “An Analysis of the Functionality of a Java HTTP/1.0 Server” Description: Focusing on a Linux port of this server, this project involved use of diagnostic tools and knowledge of Java networking objects, as well as computer networking protocols such as TCP and HTTP.
Extracurricular Activities: Included four year participation on the university varsity men&'s swim team where I competed, earning two NAIA National Championships in the 100 yard breaststroke and 3-time NAIA All-American status.
EXPERIENCE: Occupational: Software Test Engineer (contractor)- Real Networks (Sept 2000 - Oct 2001) My responsibilities included STE & QA engineering for an internally released server product. This required the utilization of time management skills in being tasked out to complete work in differing areas of focus as well as being available to field immediate/emergency requests. The activities that my STE position at Real entailed included:
--Working to learn database structure; the interpreted language in which the server was coded(Pike, a C++ derivative); and server software architecture.
--The creation of test plans and a subsequent test case matrices.
--The design, construction, and adaptation of tools to aid in testing procedures, creating metrics for testing, and increase productivity through automation of functionality, stress, and load testing.
--Minor production code conversion contributions, functionality extension, as well as the insertion of debug coding into the software as needed to better facilitate troubleshooting efforts.
--Regression of bugs and the BVT'ing latest builds of server software as well providing follow up on issues through triage.
--Additional tasks included outside QA work on email advertising campaigns as well as some client-side auto-upgrade testing.
My efforts to learn the system facilitated my ability to serve as an expert in troubleshooting during both black box and white box testing; in-house staging; and production use. My expertise led to responsibility of documentation of the software.
Grading Assistant - Pacific Lutheran University (Sept 1999 - Dec 1999) Responsibilities entailed the timely evaluation of student course work and assignment of grades so as to provide students with prompt feedback regarding their progress in the course.
Summer Hire Intern - Skagit County Public Works(May 1996 - Aug 1996, May 1997- July 1997) Responsibilities involved working to assist staff in the Development Review division of the Engineering department in processing permits both in office and in the field. Also charged with tending to some of the related clerical and bookkeeping details. In addition, I worked cooperatively on countywide 911 re-addressing project.
