Title: "SAUKARYAM" (On-line Civic Services through Information Technology)

                 The Projects is first of its kind in the Country and is one among the best fifteen I.T. projects competing in the finals of the "STOCKHOLM CHALLENGE INTERNATIONAL AWARD" in the category of 'Public Services and Democracy' (www.challenge.stockholm.se award) and got a national.
                   This is a comprehensive project for providing various civic services through IT and computerization of operations of Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (A local Body of State Government of Andhra Pradesh).
Module – 1:  Online Tax Collections through banks  
                    This Module, an Intranet based project, was inaugurated on 28th Dec’2000 by Mr. N. Chandra Babu Naidu, Hon’ble CHIEF MINISTER OF ANDHRA PRADESHand first of its kind in the field of local administration in the state of Andhra Pradesh .
                     This Module is basically to collect the Municipal Dues such as Property Tax, Water Charges, Bulk / Semi-bulk water charges etc., through on-line. The Municipal Corporation has established a Metro Area Network throughout the city. 15 Commercial Banks in the city limits of Visakhapatnam have got connected to the Main server of Municipal Corporation through intranet (MAN) provided by a Dense private network.. Taxpayers can directly pay theirs dues from any of the banks connected to the main server through Intranet. The said module was prepared in 3-tier client server architecture. VB6.0 as a front-end, SQL Server 7.0 as a backend and some of the calculation and connection modules (ActiveX DLL & ActiveX Exe’s) are as middle tier. Through this module, the corporation is also able to track the receipt of the property tax amounts in various banks on a real time basis.

Module - 2 : City Civic Center
                 Internet penetration in a developing Country like ours is still not complete and it has been priority to see that benefits of Saukaryam are extended to the common citizen, the Citizens who may not have access to computer or may not be com-puter literate. In view of this, Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has developed a model computerized 'City Civic Center' with all amenities in the Corporation premises to act as 'One Stop Civic Shop' for availing various civic services in the Municipal Corporation. Issue of Birth and Death Certificates instantly on demand. Computerized Registration of Building Plan Applications and online tracking of their disposal status. Online Registration of Water Tap Applications. Online Registration of miscellaneous licenses. Computerized recording of Complaints and suggestions and tracking their disposal. Online facility for modifications/rectification's in the Property assessment records. All the information pertaining to Municipal Corporation viz., Sanitary, Civil Works etc through a user-friendly Touchscreen Kiosk.
