A word of warning... this program
requires Crystal Reports 8 Develop
edition... if you don't have it... good
luck loading it into the IDE. Even
trying to remove the dependancies and
areas the require it only create more
problems. If you have Crystal 8 Dev,
than you should be fine. I don't have
it, so I'm not fine.

I don't know how Crystal Reports is
now, but back when I used it (v4.6 I
think) it was awful in the sense that
you were unable to select the fields
you wanted. For example, user 1 likes
to see 4 fields, X1, X2, X3, and X4,
while user 2 would like the same report
with fields X1, X2, X5 and X7. In
order to make the two users happy you
had to make two report templates! That
is, if you didn't want to create one
from code only, and that was a major
pain, plus there were known update
issues in it.
So, question: How is
it now? Better, worse, the same?

The screen shot looks very interesting.
However, I'm receiving errors when
running the setup bat file - and
registering the ocx fails. Any clue on
what might be wrong? I'm very

Nice clean interface. A couple of
issues. 1) Check the unloading of
forms. For example clicking the close
control box in the main MDI form leaves
Form1,frm_user_pass,frmSplash still
loaded (app will not terminate) 2) You
used LaVolpe's menu routines, it would
be nice if you gave him some credit.

It needs to unload forms better, the
database needs to be "normalized", and
basic resource reclaiming (destroy
connections ect...) needs to be added.
Other than that (all simple things that
can be done by any of us). This is a

Crystal is a workable solution for
reporting, no doubt. Frankly, I can't
stand it's heavy footprint and
stringent licensing requirements (among
other things); hence the reason why I
informed you of the risk you run freely
sending out the CR***.dlls. I

Since Planet Source Code is a site for
VB students and developers, I think you
really blew it. Where are the image
files? They aren't copywrited. Why
didn't you use the Designers that come
with VB instead of Crystal which most
people don't have. It doesn't matter
if you have some fancy screen shots and
some nice code in places. If it
doesn't work, it isn't much good as a
tutorial. The object of this site is
to provide people with short cuts to
their own success. When you provide so
much frustration, you are working
against the purpose of this site.

useful. Well, I have got Crystal Report
8.5 installed and i can run those sales
entry, etc. Hoever, i encounter error
when i try to viw or generate reports.
Can someone help? the error message is
run-time error '20998'. in the log, it
is stated,not supported. what is wrong?
I am quite a beginner to VB. Plz help

For those of you commenting on the
lvbuttons.ocx.... Divyen did include
this in the download. It is referenced
in the warning text file included (nice
job D) and included a setup bat file to
register this ocx. Again Nice Job D. A
