Description:
1) read input data from text files and create a list of students and projects 2) display a graphical user interface (GUI) of student ID and project preferences using a grid display of buttons for project preferences of the student 3) allocate students to projects based on robust allocations method 4) display the allocated project of student in different coloured font from others in the grid display of buttons 5) allow user input of supervisor surname in a text field 6) validate supervisor name 7) display students for a supervisor (from user input of supervisor name) in a list showing student ID, forename, surname and project description (in a separate frame), 8) display details of project (from button click) - student's name, ranking (by the supervisor for the project) and supervisor for the project 9) display a double bar chart to compare choices (contrasting the number getting their nth choices for students and projects) by students and projects 10) output report data showing supervisor, student ID and name, project ID and description to file. 11) group the data output file by supervisor (ordered by supervisor name and shown once for each group) and each group ordered by student ID 12) create a jar file so the user can run the program from an icon on the desktop Status so far: 1) data read from input files and arrays initialised 2) GUI is displayed with all buttons working. 5) user input of name is allowed 6) supervisor name is not validated, although if no name is input option pane pops up requesting input of a name 7) a table is displayed, but no data (as out of bounds exception) 8) student name, the project description and supervisor and ranking is displayed 9) bar chart displayed, but no data as function 3 still not implemented and all other functions still not implemented. Main problem is method for allocation of project - algorithm: method to allocate a project to a student based on a robust pairing 1. at the start all sudents in a pool of unallocated students 2.while the pool is not empty 3. student(denoted by s) in the pool is allowed to pick a project 4. while s has not been allocated to a project 5.s tries the next project in it's list 6.if the project is currently free 7.s is allocated to the project and leaves the pool 8.otherwise 9.if the project supervisor prefers s to his current student s1 10.s is allocated to the project and s1 re-enters the pool 11.end of loop 12.end of loop
