I see what you mean...
Some time ago I started developing such an application, I intended to use it for the same purpose as you (create mobile phone ringtones) :)))
However, the most difficult part is to get the damn speaker sound like the phone :))) We were not able to find a frequecy table for musical notes, so the application is mainly based on our musical qualities.
If you are interested, I could send you a demo application; the only difference from your request are (as far as I can remember, 'cause it is somwhere on a cd)
1. it does not save the output(piece of cake :)) )
2. it creates output in Nokia codification
3. it only plays the 1st Nokia octave
3. ah, and no playback (yet)
I would try to send you in 24 hours the demo, and we'll talk money then.
Best regards,
Radu

Dear Andy,
Find attached the latest compozer demo. It does not contain the playTest4.exe file, I hope you still have it, my connection from home is anything but fast :(
The new feature is, I think, what you requested: THE MUSICAL STAFF (and NOTES on it) ! Well, I'm happy that it worked :))
The present offer will include save file and dotted notes facilities in this price.
However, it is all negotiable :) (maybe you'll have some more ideas, I already have some).
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Radu Best regards,
Radu Andrei
