Proxy/internet gateway server
Bid Request Id: 39430

Description:
****VIEW THE ATTACHED FILE******
I will be making a proxy/internet gateway. It would be good if it cached, had security, is VERY fast and VERY reliable. Needs to keep good logs and have a good reporting system.
Good if programmed in Visual Basic, but other programming language may be ok. Recommend using SQL, but another database structure might work. Logs will be VERY large, meaning access might crash.
proxy server needs to run on a windows 98/NT/2000/XP computer, but needs to support macintosh/unix/windows connection for authentication to the internet.
Should support either 1 or 2 network cards. 2 cards would be used so that 1 of the cards is connected to the external network and the other card is connected to the internal network, and this program will bridge the connections. I want it to work either way.
Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
Server: windows 98/NT/2000/XP
Client: All systems/web browsers

Bouret - Web Developer |
Your
work is important to me |
Dear buyer,
I have just reviewed your Proxy/internet Gateway
server work on RentACoder.com and it appeared to me to be the
most interesting work to do at the moment. I have already a web server
before and would have no difficulty developing something that would suit
your needs perfectly as I have strong knowledge of HTTP and Internet protocols.
I clearly understand your requirements and am confident I can deliver
a product that would be up to your expectations in a reasonable timeframe.
I suggest that you check my résumé on RentACoder's website.
You can also view my ratings, which show previous buyers' appreciation
of my work. Furthermore, I made a fair bid to suit your financial needs,
so you can get your work professionally done at low cost.
I can also add any feature you would like
for a typical Proxy. Access control (parental/school/forbidden web sites),
used based control, etc. I can start working on that project right away
and I can email you a development plan as soon as you accept the bid.
Regards,
Vincent Bouret

I just made a big comment including all work that would be done but my browser crashed.
I can write this back later but here are the required information.
The proxy server would be written in VB combined with mySQL and the web interface with PHP using the same mySQL db.
I also want to mention that considering the amount of work, the features in the web interface will be limited unless you give me more time and more money.
Here is my timeframe. The proxy application should be completed in two weeks (without stats and blocking system yet). I will add these systems in the next two weeks (as I take a break from December 26th until Jan 4th). Finally, it will take one or two more weeks to write the web interface.
Everything should be completed between Jan. 15th and Jan. 19th. It can be lot faster than that, it's hard to give a real estimate. Maybe I can give you a more detailed timeframe once I start developing.
If that timeframe is good with you then you can accept my bid.
Regards,
Vincent Bouret
PS: I will soon send you the complete design blueprint.

I am sorry to anounce you that I wont be able to complete this project. It becomes too difficult with POST HTTP requests.
Therefore, I can design the database and the PHP frontend (in a professional way this time) and the next coder would just have to interface with that database. The price would definitely be low if I just do this. Tell me what you think. |

Nevermind about the last comment. I found the best way to do this. It wont be able to support SSL tho. Most proxies arent supporting SSL anyway.
So I think with 200$, everything (including a nice PHP frontend) should be completed for Jan 20th.
Sorry for that previous message.

Vincent Bouret

I also want to mention that caching is also hard to implement. And it's more likely to be slower, especially with Visual Basic, than just requesting the web page again.
I hope it's not a big problem.
