Description:
ASSIGNMENT 1: Write a program (Java application) to accept input of a Nobel prize winner&'s name, and output the year of the award. Inside your program, you should have defined and initialized an array of strings that forms the Nobel laureate database as shown below. Your database must consist of an array of strings, and each element of the array must be a string containing one person&'s name, followed by a comma, followed by a four digit number which is the year that the person received the Nobel prize. When your program executes, it should request the user to type in a name. Then your program should compare that name to elements of the array until it finds the matching element of the array. From this element, your program should extract the year (4 digits), and print it on the output screen. If no match is found, then print an appropriate message.
Include the following array in your program:
Carl Wieman,2001 Pearl Buck,1938 Grazia DeLaCruz,1926 Nelson Mandela,1993
The above array of strings is only an example of a Nobel laureate database for testing purposes. Your program should work equally as well if your array contained hundreds of other names. Write your program so that capitalization is optional (e.g. nelson mandela matches Nelson Mandela).
Assumptions: You can assume that all names in the Nobel Laureate array are distinct; that first names are all terminated by one blank; and that all last names are terminated by a comma, then a four digit number that is the year of the award. There are no blanks within or before first names; and no blanks within or after last names. Suppose a user executes your program. Here are examples of inputs and their corresponding outputs. 1. input: pearl buck output: 1938 2. input: CARL WIEMAN output: 2001 3. input: Grazia Mandela output: name not found in database Extra credit Modify your program so that it allows inputs with 1/more blank spaces within, & after last names (but no blanks within 1rstnames)
Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:

Hi kelbelcrk,
I would love to do your programs. Java is so pleasant, I can't understand why anyone would opt not to write Java themselves, unless they are swamped with other subjects or the opposite sex or whatever!
Visual Your programming needs are my first priority. Thank you for your consideration! |
