Description:
Whenever you visit a website, the owner of that website can see a logfile entry for your visit. Usually something like this, for example:
80.177.9.199 - - [29/Oct/2002:03:02:41 -0800] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 17775 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)"
I understand what MSIE 6.0 means and what Windows NT 5.0 means.
But lately, when checking my logfiles, I've noticed additional references in that last section of the log entry.
Such as...
A reference to Yahoo...
213.1.135.160 - - [29/Oct/2002:03:03:51 -0800] "GET /background.gif HTTP/1.1" 200 820 "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98; HMVYahoo; H010818)"
A reference to something called HotBar...
152.163.189.233 - - [29/Oct/2002:05:43:45 -0800] "GET /background.gif HTTP/1.0" 200 "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; AOL 8.0; Windows 98; Win 9x 4.90; Q312461; Hotbar 4.1.8.0)"
A reference to AOL...
64.12.96.103 - - [29/Oct/2002:03:29:55 -0800] "GET /background.gif HTTP/1.0" 304 - "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; MSNIA; AOL 7.0; Windows 98)"
Etc., Etc.
What I want is a small .exe app that allows me to enter some string of text and have it "install" that text in the appropriate place on my computer so that whenever I visit a site, that text string will be transmitted along with my file request, and appear in that web-owner's logfile.
I need this quickly please, and I'll pay a bonus for getting this done fast.
Deliverables: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.
Platform:
All Windows OS's, 9x and later
Must be 100% finished and received by buyer on:
Oct 31, 2002 EDT
Deadline legal notes: All times are expressed in the time zone of the site EDT (UT - 5). If the buyer omitted a time, then the deadline is 11:59:59 PM EDT on the indicated date.
Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business projects < $500 (before the buyer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the software buyer and seller agreements.
We monitor all site activity for such violations and can instantly expel transgressers on the spot, so we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
If you notice a violation please help out the site and report it. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
The data you want to change is called the User Agent. Each browser sends their own identifiable string of data. I can create a small application that will allow you to add information to the user agent for Internet Explorer. The easiest way to do this is with a .vbs file (A visual basic scripting file). This way it's lightweight and easily modifiable, you don't have to worry about recompiling a visual basic program. If you want, I can create a .NET exe for $100, but in order to use it you will have to have the .net runtime installed already.
I can have this done by tomorrow morning (at the latest) if you respond within a reasonable amount of time.
Thank you for your time and consideration. |
