Hello,
My name is Richard Ryerson. I am a Senior Developer with over 7 years experience developing custom solutions.
I have to tell you what you are asking is really unfeasable for several reasons. First of all, update queries are atomic, meaning that if something adversely, such as a cancel, happens after 1000 records have been updated (within page size) the whole thing is rolled back. Secondly, unless the table only contains a MINIMUM amount for invalid years, that this method would be right. (Imagine being prompted 10,000 times if the query find 10,000 records with invalid dates) Third, how are you planning to determine the correct year? In an update query that prompts you, you will not be able to see any of the data pertaining to that particular record. (Absolutely NOT possible)
On a more promising note, here are a few things for you to ponder.
1. If there is a way, anyway at all, that we can determine the correct date from the record, we can use that to update the data. No user intervention besides a confirmation involved.
2. If not, I can deliver you a custom application that will present you the incorrect data and allow you to make the changes in a list / grid style. (I would use VB 6 probably or create an Access form it fit well)
3. How is the data formatted? Is this year field an integer, a 2 or 4 digit text, part of a larger sized text field or is it inserted in a memo field?
In closing, if you can answer me these questions, I am prepare to make a bid of $25.00 for the update query (considering good database design and we can hash out a method to determine the correct date) or I will bid $75.00 for a custom app / Access form for the grid / list style update 'method.'
Best regards,
Richard Ryerson |
