Description:
I have a program that a few friends are using which I update from time to time. In order to make the updates easier and more convenient for everyone, I put the updated file or files onto my FTP site. That way the program can simply check for an update, download it and implement it. The program works fine for Windows ME, but two of my friends have Windows 95 and the download isn't working at all on their computers. All I want is a separate little program that I can execute from my program, which will take an optional command line (or a default command line if none exists) and connect to my FTP, download the file or files I indicate, then terminate. But it needs to work for both Windows ME and the old Windows 95 platform. I don't want to use Wininet API calls unless there are some old routines that Windows 95 with Internet Explorer 3.x can handle. Remember, I'll be calling this from another application, so it doesn't need to display itself. It's just a workhorse utility to solve a problem I'm tired of working on. Another thing, the program that works on Windows ME uses the registry to store the file information as it downloads, so that it can keep track of what it's downloaded. So if it's not too much trouble, as the FTP program downloads a file, set the file name in the registry so that the main program will know exactly what's been downloaded. The main program will know when the FTP app has terminated so all the FTP app needs to do is download the files and put the names in the registry. Thanks for the much needed help!
I'm using Visual C++ 6 enterprise.

I realise this is an odd view to take, but rather than adding a 2nd program and thus having to worry about 2 programs, why not just fix the original program to begin with? You maybe tired of working on it, but perhaps a fresh pair of eyes can spot the problem straight away? I'd be really quite interested in figuring this one out. |
