Description:
This utility is intended for use in computer forensics examinations of hard disk drives.
The object is to search all data on a hard drive, including unallocated and slack space, for keywords and phrases. When found, a user selectable amount of context before and after the search term will be written to a results file. For example, the user might be searching for every instance of the word "bias" with 128 characters of contextual material.
Thus, when the word "bias" is found anywhere omn the hard drive being inspected, 128 bytes before and after the word will be written to a results file along with the decimal offset of the location of the term.
The utility will run under Windows, but must be capable of being launched from a floppy and perform no writes to the hard drive being inspected.
The results of the inspection are to be written to an external hard drive connected via the USB of the target machine.
A complete and detailed specification will be provided to qualified bidders.

Hello.
I have extensive experience in the forensic area, being in SecurityFocus user community for over three years. Also I have already written several disk examination utilities similar, but not identical, to the one you require, for MS-DOS, Linux and Windows. Therefore most of the details implied by forensic examination processes are familiar. Please see my resume for some additional details of my past experience and work.
The application you require shall be written with no problem at all in Delphi, therefore it will be a single executable file, without the need for external libraries or files, that will fit nicely on a floppy disk. As an added bonus of this development environment I can also provide you with Kylix (Linux version) of the same application, in the same bid amount, if required.
Also, if required, the search engine can be made to search RegExp expressions and to exclude words from output. For example the user can search for the word floppy but is not interested in results where this word is near the word drive.
Of course, the application will came with full source code and complete users manual. Also I will provide a warranty of one year. This means that I will fix any bugs that may be found during this time frame, and also minor enhancements can be made within this interval at your request without any additional cost.
After you evaluate my bid, shall you find it qualified, and upon receiving the detailed specifications for this application, I will specify a development time frame, but it will be shorter than one month in any circumstance.
